Essek is a drow wizard, a self-proclaimed prodigy of Dunamancy and Graviturgy in one of the most esteemed Dens of Rosohna. Until recently, he was the Shadowhand to the Bright Queen, a position that specializes in the dangerous unknown, focusing in fields such as subterfuge or arcana.

personality

Intelligent, charming, cunning, and driven, Essek worked hard to make a name for himself at a young age. It was that drive that led him to help steal a holy symbol from his queen and his country, leading to the start a deadly war. Since engaging with the Mighty Nein, however, he has softened and become painfully vulnerable, leading to reflect on the darkness of his actions while seeking a way towards forgiveness for the unforgivable.

history

Born to one of the top Dens in Xhorhas, Essek worked hard and focused on progressing through the ranks. At a young age, he made Shadowhand, a close servant to the Bright Queen, thus making a name for himself for both his study of the Dunamancy and his youth. In time, this position allowed him the opportunity to steal the Luxon beacons (powerful religious relics) for research purposes, giving them to select members of the Cerberus Assembly, an act that set off a violent and deadly war. During this, Essek met the Mighty Nein when they returned one of the beacons; while tailing them to keep an eye on them, Essek ultimately came to care for them. When they discovered his deceit as they worked to end the war, he was devastated and ashamed, unused to the heavy guilt of his actions. With the war ended, he went to the frozen tundra of Eiselcross to oversee an outpost (and hide from assassins) and reconnected with the Nein. After some convincing and a need to make right what he had done, he accompanied them to Aeor, and ultimately, Cognouza to battle for the sake of the world. Once both Lucien and Trent were defeated, he turned to traveling, sometimes with his partner Caleb, sometimes alone, sometimes smuggling and still dodging assassins.
